sand cast bronze, unique
H:13" W:13" D:13"

Drilling repeatedly through a solid cube of resin-bonded sand accumulates lines of displacement in the very body of the material.

Unable to see the interior, I bored into all faces of the cube using 12” masonry bits of various diameters, aiming with the intention of creating an evenly-distributed mesh of intersecting tunnels. The piece functions as its own plumbing system, allowing proper gas escape and delivering the poured bronze to all cavities.

When the casting cooled, the chunk of
burnt sand was water-blasted away,
revealing a complex internal structure
fusing a gradual accumulation of actions
into an immediate whole.
